Level 1 (Month 0-6)

Level 1, let’s start with the basics. Line work line work line work!
We need you to master the ability to execute very clean lines. Sound easy? Absolutely not! A clean line very consistent in value and thickness throughout the tattoo is extremely difficult and requires great dedication to the craft to master.
Straight lines are first, then there are curves, circles, different shapes like rectangles and squares with points and edges. Nothing about this aspect of tattooing is simple if mastery is the goal. Remember clean and smooth, consistent in value and thickness throughout each edge, point, and curve. This is the key to mastering level one.

Just completed a tattoo? Take a picture, zoom in, investigate the consistency of your linework. If you don’t, don’t worry your customers will. You better be ready because your work is constantly under investigation. No time for sensitivity, clean up those lines!

Quick point to remember; 80% of customers who walk into a tattoo shop are looking for a Level 1 Tattoo. This means that you are very employable and there is plenty of business for Level 1 mastery. Names, basic outline designs, and simple flash are the most common designs for customers walking into shops today. This is great news for anyone needing to start working soon.
